Degree requirements and applications

To study in Rhineland-Palatinate, you’ll need to meet a few requirements:

  • Qualifications recognition: Your secondary school qualification from your home country must entitle you to study at a university and be recognized in Germany.
  • Preparatory program: If necessary, you can obtain eligibility by taking a course designed to prepare foreign students for university study in Germany.
  • German proficiency:For degree programs taught in German, you’ll usually need at least level B2.
  • Visa: For non-EU citizens, you’ll need a valid visa.
  • Financing and health insurance: You’ll need, for example, a sufficient balance in an escrow account, or an affidavit of support, as well as health insurance.
  • Application: Many universities and colleges offer an application section on their website.
  • Tuition fees: There are no tuition fees when you’re studying for a first degree at a public university. The only fee you’ll need to pay is a small contribution each semester, which often also includes the Deutschlandticket or public transport.
